Scanning questions and answers

Planning a scanning project in Greater London or the surrounding areas? These answers explain what to include in your enquiry and how to choose the right service.

Which scanning service do I need?

Choose document scanning for ordinary paperwork and loose documents up to A3. Use large-format scanning for oversized drawings, plans and artwork up to A0. For bound material, describe your book and its condition through our book scanning service.

Do you serve Greater London and surrounding areas?

Yes. Document Scanning Company serves customers across Greater London and surrounding areas. Include your postcode in your enquiry and agree the handover arrangements before travelling or sending originals. See our contact page for the published address and contact details.

Can I request a small job as well as bulk scanning?

We welcome enquiries about small and large quantities of documents. Tell us the approximate number of sheets, folders or boxes, the paper sizes and the output you need. Request a quotation to confirm the scope and price for your particular job.

What details do you need for a quote?

Include the quantity, sizes, whether both sides need scanning, condition, file format, file naming requirements, postcode and preferred deadline. Mention bindings, fragile paper and any special handling requirements. Our scanning costs guide explains why those details matter.

Can you scan A0, A1 and A2 drawings?

Our large-format service covers drawings and artwork from A4 up to A0. Tell us the sheet size and whether it is flat, rolled, folded or mounted so suitability and handling can be assessed. Read our large-format preparation guide.

Can documents be scanned in colour?

Document and large-format scanning can be requested in colour, greyscale or black and white. Colour is useful when highlights, annotations or artwork carry information. Explain which details must be preserved when requesting a quote.

Which file formats can I request?

Document scanning can provide PDF, JPEG or Word output, with requirements agreed for the job. Large-format scans can be supplied as PDF or JPEG. Read our file format guide to compare the options.

Will my PDF be searchable?

A PDF is not automatically searchable. If you need text search, ask about OCR when requesting your quote and agree what is included. Recognition accuracy depends on the originals, and handwriting, faded print or complex layouts may need additional checking.

Should I remove staples or dismantle books?

Discuss preparation first. Tell us about staples, bindings, sticky notes and fragile pages so the method can be agreed. Do not cut a binding or force damaged pages apart. Use our bulk-scanning checklist to plan the work.

How long will scanning take?

Timing depends on volume, preparation, condition and the required output. Include your preferred completion date in your enquiry and confirm availability before relying on a deadline.

What happens to my original documents?

Agree how originals will be handed over and returned before the job begins. Explain any retention or special handling requirements. Do not assume that scanning includes destruction or that a digital copy means you can discard the paper.

How should I discuss confidential documents?

Describe the type of records and any specific access, delivery or handling requirements without sending sensitive samples unnecessarily. Read our security and confidentiality information and confirm the arrangements required for your project before supplying originals.

How do I get started?

Request a scanning quote. If your quantity is only an estimate, say so: a clear description is a useful first step.
